About this site

Hi and welcome to aidasite. My name is Aida Moreno and I am an International Graduate student at Radford University in Radford VA. I am designing this blog for my class EDET 650 and my goal is to ease the transition to RU Campus new International students experience each semester. The second goal I have for this site is to create awareness that being international is much more than take a plane and land in a college. The intention is to analize the factors of the College experience from the perspective of the host country and also of the forigner.

The purpose of this site is to be a tool for International students transfering to Radford University to find themselves inmerse in the American culture previously to their arrival. It has been said that the first six weeks of classes are the most important in a life of a new College student. The use of the material presented in here will help the foreign student in the transition from thie country of origin to the United States. This will benefit the student lowering tension, stress and cultural shock that students experience.

I am not an International student, but I have had similar experiences as a visitor to Ireland some years ago. I am English speaking and so is Ireland, but the language and customs of even this western based culture were quite different from what I was accustomed to in the U.S. I was there for eight weeks, and one of my proudest moments was when Irish tourists who were visiting another part of their country stopped me on the road (I was riding a horse down the road) and asked me for directions. And I was actually able to tell them how to get where they were going!! I enjoyed my visit to Ireland, but there was so much to learn so many opportunities to grow an mature. I am very grateful for the opportunity I had to live in another country.
